perhaps you should query the upcdatabase.com, and if you don't get a valid response just don't return anything. If you do get a product than include it in the zero-click along with amazon.
Pseudocode:
If search may be a valid barcode
then
if barcode checksum is true
lookup on amazon
if true display amazon on zeroclick

lookup on upcdatabase.com
if true display upcdatabase.com on zeroclick

here is an item nearby my desk in the database, Dust-off spray:
http://www.upcdatabase.com/item/086216170003another item within reach that is in the database, a CD from an obscure local band called Marginal Man:
http://www.upcdatabase.com/item/711574431922Here's what you will get forwared to when it's a valid barcode (passes checksum) but it not in the database (and I had to look long and hard to find a barcode that was not in the database, so saying it "isn't very comprehensive at all and often out of date", isn't valid criticism as far as I'm concerned. (BTW this is a package of Pork-Fu, which is something like pulled pork crossed with beef jerky and dental floss)

(Note: while I'm on the low traffic mailing list, I'm otherwise totally unconnected with the web page.)
