I think it would be nice to have a sort of introduction video for DDG which quickly explains what it is and presents the differences from other search engines.

I'm thinking of a video with voice/text explaining while screencast segments are shown and the duck does stuff.

It would probably get some attention and would be easy to spread (it could possibly be shown on the about page and uploaded to various sites).

It shouldn't be too long and not try to explain everything. It should target people with different amounts of knowledge about computers (not too complicated or simple).

I could do quite a lot of the work on this, but I would at least need script ideas (what should be said or happen? structure?) before I can even begin.

Please reply with some ideas or feedback if you have any.

That would be really cool. I think the areas that make the most sense quickly to people are zero-click info and privacy. In fact, I think maybe only one should be tackled (per video), in which case I'd pick the zero-click info.

Something like (this needs to be re-worked of course and is literally off of the top of my head):

**Duck on a white or red background**

Hi, I'm <name of duck> from Duck Duck Go.

**homepage fades in**

Duck Duck Go is a search engine, like Google.

**search starts being conducted with good 0-click**

You should use it instead of Google because you get the information you want faster.

** highlight box**

You see that red box at the top? That's the zero-click info box, which gives you useful information about your search with 0-clicks.

** other searches with good 0-click**

Often times, you don't have to even click on any links. And that's just the beginning. DuckDuckGo also has more privacy, less spam, and tons of other goodies.

It seems to me that "You should use it instead of Google" is a bit too aggressive, and may even cause problems

I was thinking about this looking at the About page initially. I was hesitant for a long time to even mention Google there or anywhere, but the reality is that is what people compare it too.

So you may be right, but there may also be a way to do it right. Google frames the issue, which is why it is useful. I think you can say use this instead because you're going to get all this stuff.

My roommate saw one of my stickers and called the duck Quacky. Maybe that would be a good name? Ducks do quack and that sounds like what a nerdy duck would be called :D .

Us ducks care about our users -

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Definitely it needs a better way to introduce itself or a proper name.

Alexander is right: the duck needs a good name. I've seen several people here refer to the duck as "Ducky", so how about "Mr. Ducky"?

The "e" sound at the end adds a casual feel (like Duck Duck Go can be) and prevents I-thought-you-saids ("Mister what?!") The Mr. adds a "professional" touch (like Duck Duck Go can be). Together, the two contrast each other, and also describes the search engine in two words.
