I would like to be able to once set my preferences and forget about it. However it seems, that DDG is taking the lead from Google on this and it can't be accomplished without making an account and signing in every time. Otherwise I have to set everything, every day, when I start the browser. WTF?

You can use the URL params, this is something Google does not give you. You can add your params to then bookmark.

Thank you! You gave me the idea, but I implemented it in a slightly different way. I didn't want to switch my home page,
so I switched the keyword.URL (for DDG) string in my browser.
