I have tried the lyrics test with both Google and DDG. This test is when I search for lyrics by using little bits of lines from a song I have in mind and seeing if the correct song comes up in the results. Now Google has never failed to show the correct songs in the results. DDG however has, not only failed that, but also to show lyrics to any song at all in the results. This test may seem pointless, but think of how often you hear a song on the radio and want to find it but can only remember a few select lyrics.

I have no personnel experience with lyrics searches in DDG OR Google.

Perhaps some of the other guys here could help in understanding.

This is the kind of example that could be helpful to all users of DDG and a much more specific topic than the previous post.

Once again Gabriel is quite open to identification of problems or deficiencies in the search engine. He is typically very prompt in fixing problems that are identified.

If you could post a specific example it would help him know where to start with the fix.

I do a lot of lyric searching and I am very happy with DDG's lyric outcome. This doesn't mean anyone else has to be, but from experience, I have found a lot in the way of lyrics.

Possibly, there is something you could type different? Every search engine has it's own means of finding information and most are accustomed to Google so you may have to rephrase what you type.

As stated, a specific example would be great.

Search "street lights erase graffiti lyrics" on both Google and DDG. On Google I got "The City" by Dismemberment Plan, I didn't on DDG.

Now wait a minute, guest. Nowhere in the song "The City" by Dismemberment Plan do I see the lyrics "Street Lights Erase Graffiti." Maybe that's why you're not getting the results on DDG.

yeah i know cubsfan6 there is no line with those lyrics, the point was sometimes a person hears a song and can't remember any given line just a few words, for instance those words were relatively distinct words i pulled from memory, and that person will search the lyrics online to find the song.

Yeah but that still means there is a problem. A good search engine could find even the least popular band, plus they're not that unpopular, co-headlined Pitchfork Music Fest.

I love Dismemberment Plan :).

What I like to do is get lyrics above the results in the 0-click info box. The question is what sites are the best to crawl for this info.

That is, what lyrics sites are the most comprehensive and trustworthy?

Not sure which source could be called trustworthy either. I have noticed numerous misspellings and incorrect attributions on a few of these types of sites in the past.

Might not want to include all of the lyrics either, maybe just a snippet... the MPAA has certainly been known to (literally) beat down doors for a lot less serious of infractions.

Since it's music, you may be able to do something neat with MusicBrainz.

thats with anything though, even google has some trouble finding uknown bands.Lyric websites only pick up famous-midfamous bands.

Zeitgeistt I just showed you that Google found the lyrics, and in fact I can find most bands on Google. The only band I have had trouble finding on Google is Modern Man, a very unpopular band with an incredibly common name. Even that I was able to find with just a little extra effort. So your statement was just completely and utterly false.

Google's algorithm and vast spider army are particularly well suited for this task though.

The fact that Google can't find or Lyric sites don't have content for lesser knowns is hogwash. If someone wrote down the lyrics and posted it on the internet, Google most likely - at the very least - has it stored in the cache somewhere. No one has the crawling capacity that Google does.

Now, I realize when you search for Modern Man, there are 770 pages to look for under that search just in the main Google search page. If that unpopular, it would be quite easy to get mixed in that muck. While I won't dig through every link that came up in Google, I did skim the first 200 links and don't believe I found anything close to the Modern Man you mention.

Did you type "Modern Man"? Just that? Or did you specify them being a band, date of band, etc...

I wouldnt say i was "false", We dont use google, we run through Yahoo and Bing, see if you can find those bands on one of those, then come back and talk to me.

I found it right away in DDG. Simply typed "song lyrics street lights erase graffiti"

6th list down...

exactly! Your not gonna find an barely known band instantly anywhere, you have to actually search a little.
