As soon as I learned of "bias tweaked" results on the "Big G" search engine, I learned of Duck Duck Go, and have been using it ever since as my default.

About two months ago, I got my first Android phone, quickly searched the "official" Android Market, and happily found the DDG app, and installed it.

Yesterday, I thought I'd load DDG on my wife's Acer Iconia Tablet. I opened Market, searched for Duck Duck Go... and found one "unofficial" DDG app...not good. I loaded the "alternative" web browser I'd installed on the tablet (Dolphin), and searched for the "real" DDG Android app. I found it, but when I attemtped to INSTALL it, the Android OS on the tablet politely informed me that I COULDN'T install(!)

Okay, tonight I did some more searching, found a blog touting an app named "FDroid," which allows access to "other" Android Apps, and thankfully, I WAS able to install DDG on my Iconia from there.

But on a lark, I opened the "Official Android Market" on my HTC Evo Shift Android phone, and searched (again, two months later) for DDG... NO GO! the "official" DDG app is nowhere to be found on Android Market...

Could "another" search engine have angered the Android (Google) Gods?

More likely that particular tablet, as another user recently reported that. It is available on my galaxy tab, as well as a friend's xoom. Let's see if we can get the android app maintainer to fix this

But it's not just my Tablet,

I'm also searching on my HTC Evo Smartphone (w/ Credo Mobile, no less), and there is NO DDG showing up in Android Market searches...

Just confirmed this again, because I can easily screw things up...but I don't think it's "me" this time...

Would like to Root my phone, but what a nightmare! I'm no Unix/Linux geek, and I spent hours over the weekend trying to follow three different direction sets to Root. All failed

Please contact me off list if you would so I can better assist you and ensure that things get sorted out for you. Good to know you're not rooted. I'm wondering if the system requiring haptic feedback is causing this on the tablet. The EVO is a whole other story. I'll have to look into it since I'm not really an Android programmer :). I usually work on the back end.

I've been looking into this this morning. The Android Market Publisher site states that the tablet and phone are compatible.

Iconia Tab A100 (VanGogh)(vangogh)

Sorry for the horrible formatting, I copied it straight out of the app store.

I have yet to receive any email about this problem. I can't really help any further until I get a better understanding of what exactly is going on. Remote debugging isn't my favorite thing to start out with and is impossible without the device in question.

Hey all,

I'm the one that needs to apologize, as my knowledge of "what's going on" behind the scenes in all these instances and for all these devices is low.

My concerns were not really "for me." My fear, as a DDG "end-user" who wants to see it flourish, is that if I couldn't find DDG on the "Android Market," could others?

My hackles were especially raised when I searched AGAIN on a device that I had no problem finding DDG on (my Evo Shift smartphone), and two months later, that same search showed...bupkis.

And to be clear, I open the Android Marketplace, select Apps as my category, select the Search function, and type "duck duck go" as my query. So there's no way it shouldn't display...unless it's being withheld for some reason.

Sorry if I sound "suspicious," but Android is made by...hate to say it, because I don't think they're near as evil as greddy/evil as FaceBook, but pretty soon... "Big Grother"?

Okay, I'm starting a new thread, because my level of concern just went a WHOLE LEVEL higher...

what happens when you search without spaces? same? I think most people can see it. 822 devices in all countries currently supported by the android market.

Another way to have resolved this would be to go to duckduckgo.com in the android browser. On that page there is a link for "Add to Android", this would have taken you to the market. The mobile web is arguably better though, and certainly more featureful.
