This is something google does well, but DDG not so well.
Example: Nigel Doughty (Chairman of Nottingham Forrest football club) died very recently. I heard on the radio. I DDG'd Nigel Dowty to read the story. I didn't know how to spell his name. DDG didn't help at all. Google was all over it and told me my error instantly with the news searches I wanted.
DDG is also less forgiving with spelling errors and typos. If the search engine was more sympathetic to sound, it would provide better the search you wanted even when you aren't sure how to spell words.
