Strange....

Sometimes it works for me, and other times it doesn't. I'm getting the same problems when I do it directly from Google Translate though, so it's probably a problem on their side.

In the meantime, you can try using Yahoo! Babel Fish or Bing Translator, which don't seem to have this issue.

Edit: Removed the links. Seems Zoho is having troubles with the foreign characters, making both of them mess up.

You could do [! translate] with space which would get you through to google translate where you can then paste your stuff, but you're right it is technically an extra page load not a true bang.

Are there any third party translation APIs besides Google's?
