Ok, a little confused. I just read the latest Cyanide & Happiness: http://www.explosm.net/comics/2472/ I decided to see if BBG actually meant anything so DDG'd it. The first result was for the BBC, no "did you mean" and it even highlighted (put in bold) the letters "BBC" in the description text. Is this a bug? I thought DuckDuck wasn't meant to push users towards results...?
I'm increasingly finding myself using the !bang system to quickly navigate to sites, e.g. !torrent, !y etc. This is a very easy way to go to sites where the search addon is installed in the browser but some bangs take you to a 404, e.g !bbc or !eb.
Could it be fixed so they all take you to their respective home pages?
Ever find yourself typing a search query into Firefox and then later updating it directly in DDG's search box and wishing Firefox would update its box accordingly? Well, here is how:
Download and install the SearchBox Sync addon. Restart. Addons > SearchBox Sync > Options
Select Add...
Where the rule is: https?://([^.]+\.)?duckduckgo\.com+/[^?/]*\?(.*&)?(as_)?q=([^&]+)
Et Voilà!
Now your search box should sync with DDG.
This also works well when you highlight text, right click and select "Search with DDG".
Having looked at some of the Firefox addons on donttrack.us I decided to give some of them a go (by the way, please let me know if you do not want this discussed here). My current setup is:
BetterPrivacy Ghostery https-Everywhere Beef Taco and I already use Adblock Plus (EasyList + EasyPrivacy)
What I'd like to know is: is this the ideal setup? Or do some of these addons clash with one and other?
Perhaps you could recommend your browser setup. Oh and don't bother talking about Tor; I don't want to discuss proxies.
