Hi Gabriel: lately, I’ve had a few queries where I have had to !g because the DDG results weren’t as comprehensive. DDG seems to give one hit per site, at least for the first ones that are visible. On occasion, I know a certain article is at site X but the one DDG elects to show isn’t that one. I wouldn’t mind being able to see ‘More results from site X’.
I know this is what some other search engine does, but if such a feature could be included, it would prevent me having to go elsewhere.
Some hotels offer their guests internet usage from their machines. While many have set-ups that are “locked down”, I have noticed that you can still add default search engines to them. At one hotel, I went on their PCs and changed their default search engines to DDG. As they have no connection to Google, and its users would wind up with a better search experience, I don’t think they would mind. (Next time I go back, I will check if they are still on DDG.)
If anyone frequents cybercafés, maybe this is a possibility there, too?
I’ve also stopped using the verb to Google when referring to search. While turning DDG into a verb is not practical, we need to stop saying, ‘Google it.’ I will say, ‘Go to Duck Duck Go,’ though I’m sure we can come up with better phrases.
