Most search engines have a snippet of code that web masters can put on their page to offer a web search box.
WHAT IF... you had a search box AND a hit counter for that page? I bet that would tempt more than a few lazy web makers. (Myself included.) You could also offer a snippet of code for only a banner link.

To improve ranking the FAQ says: "The best way is to get links from high quality sites like Wikipedia." Would that really work? Wikipedia has /nofollow on every page. If your site is written about on the Wiki, sure it will rank higher. But a link will not be followed nor improve ranking by my understanding.

I wrote a short article on the web called "Fixing Portable Audio Problems (Hum, Pop and SquEEE!)." That title has been used by malware sites to trick people to visit their site which re-directs to an area that tries to load malware onto the user's computer.
At DDG, NONE of those nasty sites appear in the results. Just the original posting. At the Big "G" [I don't mean Gigablast] they included the re-directs to malware. (Finally they now include a warning about those sites.)
Fans of DDG might take this for granted. I am happy about it.
