Global Quack & Hack: The Aftermath

Last weekend, developers from around the world gathered together to improve DuckDuckGo's search results in the first-ever Global Quack & Hack. During this 24-hour hack day, the DuckDuckGo open source community broke country and language barriers to (DuckDuckHack) code alongside each other and create Instant Answers for searches that developers frequently do. Today, we're excited to share some of the amazing things the community accomplished in that short time:

  • 10
    Cities hosting the event
  • 100+
    Attendees to city events
  • 253
Registered members of our new Slack team
  • 70
Active Slack participants at peak activity (2pm EDT)
  • 124
Clones of our Instant Answer repositories
  • 30
    New Instant Answers submitted

As an example, here's an upcoming Docker cheat sheet that you can play with in beta. Thanks to preemeijer for bringing it to life!

You can see all the Instant Answers in beta testing here and all pending submissions here"

We're enormously proud of the community's ability to work together and our deepest thanks go out to all our Community Leaders, meetup organizers, contributors, and friends who made the event possible. Our Slack team will continue to exist as a platform for the community to interact with each other and staff. Our hope is that contributors around the world can unify around the topics they search for and discuss how to improve them through community, open source, and Instant Answers.

Check out some pics from various cities around the world below and the full album here. If you're not already a part of our Slack team, request an invite!

Your humbled friends,

-The DuckDuckGo staff

Thanks everyone for a great Global Quack and Hack and seeing all those happy people on photo in the meetup groups... I am wondering if the same thing would/could be done in the Netherlands :)

Let's hope so because if there is one I will definitely participate! :) I live also in The Netherlands. (Tilburg)

Whow, that is in the neighborhood. I will keep that in mind and maybe there is a shot to setting one up. And it's also very close to Belgium so... :P
