Directions!

We’re proud to announce that we’ve just added one of the most-requested features to date: Directions!

Now, location results will not only give you the option for directions but allow you to choose from the most-requested map providers – Apple, Bing, Here, OpenStreetMap, and yes – even Google Maps!

Once you’ve chosen your favorite maps provider, the “Get Directions” button will default to that source in the future, where cookie-applicable.  This works on mobile, too – jumping straight into the selected maps app if it's installed to your device.

We're still working on more improvements to the directions implementation. Soon, your chosen maps provider will be an integrated Setting so it will get saved along with the rest of your DuckDuckGo preferences. We're also planning to add more maps providers so don’t worry if your favorite company isn't on the list yet.

If you have a suggestion, be sure to drop it in the comments below!

Let us know what you think!

There is no way to turn this off?

Looks like hidden tracking to me.

You can turn if off by disabling Instant Answer but I'm wondering why you see this as tracking.

My only wish is that it would trigger when you use terms like "From x to y"

Only having it trigger with street addresses isn't that useful IMO.

Thanks for the tip about disabling the region picker — I had no idea DuckDuckGo displayed location results and maps.

But it is weird to have to do this. In order to get map results for UK street names I first have to tell DuckDuckGo not to provide UK-specific results. Please can you add maps to region-specific results. Thanks.

It would be nice if it could show directions in DDG's maps. The next maps you should add are yandex maps.

Instead of picking one service, I'd love to see you aggregate the directions from ALL of the services and provide the most common routes or even suggest possible short cuts.

Only works if I disable my region filter :(
