The New Notification System

In the last few weeks, I've worked hard to add a notification system to the community platform. It turned out that it was a visually complex topic, as we need to show those notifications for you on the web and also through email. Plus, we have several content types (and comments on those types), comments on comments, comments on comments on content types and so ;). It was getting complex and it required a massive cleanup to reach the point we have now! So, let me introduce to you to...

The new notification system

Now, when you login to the community platform, you have a new button to see the current notifications (they are also seen, "on top" of your user icon, if there are any) and another one to edit the notifications you want to receive.

Right now, the editor is very simple and just allows you to follow all comments, all new tokens or all new translations (in your language of course). This will be more detailed in the future and will allow you to follow specific blog posts or other specific topics. It's only a visual thing, right now, and needs some buttons. The system will then send you emails in the cycle you want and, soon, you will also be able to get them instantly, if chosen. This setting can be set very specific and allows you to get exactly the right amount of notifications for your preference.

If you'd like to get involved in token translation, we'd really love for you to, at least, follow the new tokens. We would like to have a faster workflow cycle for bringing new translations to the site and the notification system is a first step towards this goal.

I would never have a fb or twitter account. How do I become a full member of this community? It would seem to be in contradistinction, for anyone who want anonymity and privacy, to have either of those accounts especially...along with most social media accounts. How is my thinking about this issue, incorrect? I welcome any sophisticated individual's advice as to my personal disbelief about the privacy and security of especially these two accounts mentioned! I joined dukgo.com for precisely getting rid of google, gmail, and Yahoo etc...not interested in ever joining a social media account with fb or twit.

Would like to have easier ways to browse everything "following" screen.
Streamlined topics or votes and comments where at first, the last is only a number until clicked to display the full length post being followed. Or have tabs:

* followed ideas or "general rambling"
* voted on ideas
* comments, posts or replies - maybe further split into personally created and followed.

The timeline currently is both hard to browse and too much to take in at once. It makes sense (good sense) to have follow notifications for a post and a discussion thread individually, but not if they only link in name.

I'm a new member. I am really getting tired of being followed and I hope DDG is the answer. I would like to use my P/C more, but I feel like everything I look for or 'at' is open to the world! What good is my security system that I'm paying good $$ for. Looking forward to a good relationship! Thanks for all the hard work to make this happen for the Internet users. Sincerely; Anom.

Things are running very fast, or rather it's me who only recently discovered your work. Yesterday i entered the community with the purpose to help in translation (from English into Spanish, my first tongue), what is my hobby and partly my job, since Spanish text Analisys and Production (with grammar, sintaxis and all that stuff) has been the main subject of my studies at University and now the matter of my teaching at the Politechnical Univ. of my country (long 'down' to the south: a rather different regional version of the Spanish spoken in the States). There exists what we can call an 'international' Spanish, as there exists an 'international' English. But before than translating whole texts -what i'd do with pleasure because i share the transparency and ethical aims of DDG and have the same rejection for intrusive manipulation of personal data-, i saw that there are already here and there mistakes or misleading partial translations to beguin with. I know hardly anything about internet, i only know one thing: writing or translating into Spanish, so i ask to the due and unknown 'technical advisor', whoever should be, to tell me how to manage the web side of the task (notifications, mails or whatever it is): i can check and correct -morphosyntaxis or style- already written partial and confusing translations (there would be a lot to discusss about it), but don't know how can i put or publish them on the site, and which part of the site... Which is the way to send you this eventual proposals of translations? I have plenty of time now since i am 'between jobs'... markinsky.
