Until we can purchase entirely open platforms we are vulnerable to control, coercion, and security threats we cannot counter because they are built into the infrastructure beneath our projects. Therefore I nominate:
1) launch or support viable open hardware projects
2) coreboot (
3) Spark (
Most, if not every single project mentioned above is built on these lower layers. Our security, our livelihoods, the very option of running alternate projects depend on these few things. They are too important to continue ignoring. As attacks on our freedoms creep lower and lower into our machines (ie- locked BIOS code, UEFI, etc) and we must build alternate infrastructure and develop sources to fuel these devices of freedom, lest we lose our free culture entirely.
