Re: Eric, while a ddg-style desktop search (for seraching your computer) might be nice, I think there are plenty of other ways to do this (I use Search Everything (Windows)). Also, the idea of ddg's crawler running on personal computers would not sit well with all of the privacy-oriented folks. If you want to search the web from the desktop, then I suggest getting a browser with a shorter startup time. Google Chrome comes up very fast (the reason I switched from FF), and the Canary Build is faster still.

Re: Guest, the online/offline divide is very real, and not at all artificial for me. The files on my computer are mine, and the files on the web are someone else's.If I wanted to download something after not finding it on my own computer, I would want that to be a separate step. And again, anything ddg does to index users' computers would be completely against their current privacy policy.
