One possibility for generating traffic to the forum is linking back to a forum post from twitter (if you use it).
Let's say that you are watching a live stream of the WWDC next year. You have deep thoughts that need at least a few paragraphs to express and you make your post on the DDG forums.
What you should do next is link back to your post on these forums. In your twitter post, use a few hashtags associated with the content of your post (like #WWDC #DuckDuckGo #privacy).
We're using twitter as an example, but you also also link back to DDG long-form posts from other platforms / communities. A cheap and easy way to gauge effectiveness of different sources is to create a bit.ly link for the forum post.
