YES! Thank you! I would never have found that suffix - no amount of quacking was bringing that up. Finally the "make this default" command appeared. Saved from Google! Thanks!

So, the Chrome instructions said to use %s and I got the ?q= by doing a sample DDG search. Blended the 2 and it works!

what i can not understand is why you want to get away from google so much but insist on using chrome which is their browser. chrome sends so much personal data back to google it makes your head spin. there are privacy browsers that are based on chrome but have all of the google phone homes removed and you might want to use duckduckgo to search for some of those to use instead of chrome.
