It asks me for a URL when I try to attach an image. But doesn't let me attach an image from my desktop.

Correct. (The following information is my method for posting images and not an endorsement by or from DuckDuckGo). I use http://snag.gy/, which makes uploading and attaching images very easy. All you need to do is copy the local image to your clipboard then paste it into snag.gy and copy the provided link. Give it a try!

Is this the screenshot uploader for new threads or another feature? Thanks

OK, I should enhance my previous answer:

You can upload screenshots when creating an original post. I just tested this feature and it works as designed.

If you are replying to an existing thread and need to include a screenshot or other image, you'll need to use the steps that I outlined above (only URLs are accepted when creating a Reply).

Ah, I see, the screenshot button in the comment form? I'll have a think about things we can do there.

When using a public link from Dropbox the images aren't being displayed. Such as with this comment.

Confirmed, I'll give the devs a bump and see if this can be corrected. Thanks for the notification!

This does not appear to be an image link, it's a link to a page with the image embedded.

Does dropbox expire these content links? Let's see...
