As stated above you may notice that the forums are almost always empty. When someone replies it may be up to 6 hours before anyone replies. Maybe we need a new way to advertise but... how?

Well honestly very few threads don't get answers, in many forums they don't answer at all. You can contribute too. ;)
Also I think the delay of some replies is due to differences in time zones.

True but remember sometimes forums dont get a reply at all. A popular thread will have 4 replies.

There are popular threads but they might not be exposed well right now because of platform limitations. We're working on that and would love help.

I believe a lot of users observe threads, if you bring up interesting topic to discuss more ducks will come to reply.

One possibility for generating traffic to the forum is linking back to a forum post from twitter (if you use it).

Let's say that you are watching a live stream of the WWDC next year. You have deep thoughts that need at least a few paragraphs to express and you make your post on the DDG forums.

What you should do next is link back to your post on these forums. In your twitter post, use a few hashtags associated with the content of your post (like #WWDC #DuckDuckGo #privacy).

We're using twitter as an example, but you also also link back to DDG long-form posts from other platforms / communities. A cheap and easy way to gauge effectiveness of different sources is to create a bit.ly link for the forum post.
