Hello and welcome to DDG. I believe that you are referring to the ads on DDG's results pages. These ads are based the immediate search that you enter and are not used for tracking. Here are some web pages that explain all of this that you should find helpful:

DDG Ads: https://duck.co/help/company/advertising...
Tracking Ads: http://donttrack.us/

Thanks!

No, I am getting those ads on the MSN news homepage and on Facebook sidebars.

Remember that once you leave the ddg results page and visit another Web site, ddg can no longer protect you. It's possible the that sites you visit drop cookies that FB and MSN use.

Another thing to remember is that if you click on an ad on DDG, Bing (owned by MSN/Microsoft) can track your click, but if you don't then they can't.

It would be interesting if DDG put a warning below ads that Bing can track clicks on the ad.

Duckduckgo does not track users nor uses tracking cookies to give personalized advertisement. Those ads that appear in Duckduckgo are only based on the search term only.

Searching on DDG is private, DDG isn't a browser, it's a search site. If you want private browsing use either Firefox or TOR web browser.

Hope this helps.

Firefox isn't that private, instead of Firefox you can use IceCat (based on Firefox) or Epic browser (based on Google Chrome but the dev has omitted Google services such as Google Translate to avoid being tracked by Google).

In Firefox (latest version) select "File/New Private Window" or use this addon

The private window only keeps the browser from recording and storing information locally (history, cache, cookies) but does not provide any level of online privacy. Read this DDG information page: http://privatebrowsingmyths.com/
