An image search option would be nice, because time from time we use it, this option would be useful.

Make the image search results swipeable on mobile devices. The current forward and back arrows are way too small for touch targets.

I think it is important to have a discretionary filter so if someone is searching images at their place of employment, the results will not include pornographic or other controversial images. Filter should likewise be allowed to completely be shut off.

Yes. I'm tired of using Google and Bing images, because they track you, and that's just what DDG is trying to avoid. Hopefully this gets done soon!

I would love to see pictures that you can use and/or edit for business purposes.
With that in mind I found this:

It would be very nice to see this integrated!

I think it would be great to allow users to upload images and set their own keywords/phrases, descriptions, dimensions, colors, etc. for those images. It would probably help increase your registration base as well.

I definitely agree about searching by license.

This might not even be possible. But it would be cool, if it was possible to also search images OCR :D

Please add this feature. I literally just started using duckduckgo today and one of the first things I did was try to search for images. When I couldn't, I wanted to go back to google right away. In the end of the day I did find out how to search with filetype: but that's not really something a person wants to do.. it's not very efficient, also lacks features of image search on google

I'd love to see an image search that brings up the exact image which I'm looking for. The filtering will be a very key feature which will add more functions to the engine.

The attributes I may be looking for is based on tags, geographical location, size, color, camera maker, camera lens and the image license type.

size filters are important (in MP, not something vague like "wallpaper size")

searching different countries is helpful... i currently use google image search, using google.es or google.jp sometimes give different results. why not include all results from all countries?

remember my preferences for image filtering!

it would be nice if i could flag some images as "irrelevant" to a particular search.

customizable thumbnail size

swipe support for tablets... instead of an endless scroll.

ability to select multiple images and view as a book... and save.... bookmarked image books.

Already said by other user, but filtering by license would be awesome.

Great, it's a feature that was missing so much! :)

What about a 'matching adjusting' system?

Study case:

1. I search for 'Hillary Clinton' and I found a photo of 'Bill Clinton'
2. I suggest a better description for the wrong photo writing 'Bill Clinton' on a text field
3. Server side the system changes the matching scores due to the amount of advices received.

**** yeah! I love it! I use DDG for grabbing Wikipedia articles, looking up definitions and history, and lots of other quick search stuff. Image search is pretty much the only thing I need from Google that I can't get from DDG.

Would be nice to have an 'Exclude/Include Stock Images' option. When I want a picture on a subject sometimes the results get filled with watermarked stock images. Results from known sites could be the filter. Could be used positively by people who want stock images for commercial purposes.

Ok fine I'll be the one to say it:

****

Not trying to sound perverted but I'd like an image search engine that can search for pornstars or models I admire. Google or Bing don't do that because of all the censoring, so I think you can make big on that. Just my 2 cents.

"Similar images" that works on features and not just color histograms would be great. Image search via api based on features would also be useful for a lot of applications that people don't normally think of as search (like smart fill in Photoshop).

Also face recognition (which Google won't do for fear of backlash).

Reverse image search, as it has already been mentioned in other comments, would be awesome. To be honest, it's the main feature of image search that I use with G...

Bing's infinite scroll in image search is much better than Google's. Their search bar also scrolls back into view with a quick scroll up (although DDG's is fixed, so that's all kinda mute). I use their color and "type" filters a lot to look for icon ideas.

A "difficult but not impossible" or maybe "easy but crowdsourced" thing I would like in a image search engine would be image consolidation; Right now if you search for something art-related, (for example) you get the same picture by a single famous artist taking up 1/10th of the 1000 returns most search engines are allowed to show you. It would be nice if these were consolidated into a single return. You could click on the image to go to the most popular of the "identical" images, or click on a consolidation link to expand and choose a specific one. Difficult would be to use image-recognition techniques to consolidate image returns. Crowdsourcing would be to give people the ability to consolidate images and remove images from a consolidated group in their search and use the feedback of users to choose what should be grouped together.

I would like to add the suggestion, that you could make all outgoing links (to images) go through your website, as you with Favicons, an thumbnails from Wikipedia. Just to provide users with extraordinary(!) privacy. : )

Each individual filter should be controllable.

E.g for size, on Google I can choose large, medium, or small, but I should also be able to choose large-or-medium. Better would be sliders like some sites have for setting a price range.

Similar for colors - I should be able to choose multiple colors.

Similar for filetypes - I should be able to say "no TIFFS" or "png or bmp only"

google seems to have the best image search available, just look at theirs for a template, wouldn't be anything wrong with that, they took most of their image search from bing, when bing was still in beta.

more ideas for features:
- a way to tell the search engine to discard all the results and try again.
- an option to somehow track the images that has been shown already so they'll never appear again.
- filters; filter by source, by dominate color, by adult content, by similarities, by author, by regional location of source.
- a feature to add tags to images inside the search, to help search results for other DDG users.
- the ability to draw an image and have the search engine try to find a match from the outline of said image.
- a 2 click function to download images.

just a few quick ones of my head

Hi,

I just changed from Google to your search engine and I´m already very happy with the speed and the quality of the results. It is nice to read that an image search in in work and I wish you the right ideas for a fast result. I think the image search will increase your traffic a lot.

All the best!

Thanks to everyone on their support for a DuckDuckGo image search. This feature has been near and dear to our hearts for quite a while and, the time has come. We're beginning work on our image search and we'd really love any feedback, hopes, caveats, and any other input you have on what a great image search looks like to you.

We'll keep this thread alive for just that purpose.

I think what he means is "Search by image". You give an input image and DDG gets you similar images. This is going to be a tough one but not impossible. Search for "Supervised learning of semantic classes for image annotation and retrieval"
