Not sure which browser you are using on your Mac, or if you've installed a DDG add-on to your browser, so it's hard to give an answer. However, I will note that in June, 2014 Apple added DDG as a search alternative to Safari:
Safari also gives you more control over your privacy, with separate Private Browsing windows and built-in support for DuckDuckGo, a search engine that doesn’t track users.

Later in 2014, Mozilla added DDG as a search alternative to Firefox.

Let us know more about your environment and we'll try to help with your issue.

Why would you ever want to get rid of DDG?

I don't think you must remove DDC. But if you really want, check Safari settings.
