make DDG your default homepage

Aha! Just found out the easy way to make DDG my default homepage (it was G**gle). I'd already put DDG icon on my toolbar as a bookmark; simply drag-and-dropped it onto the 'reload home page' button (the wee 'house' icon) on the address bar.

Up pops a "Set Home Page" box, asking:

Do you want this document to be your new home page? Select 'yes' (obviously!)

Job done! No more Gggle, or whatever your homepage used to be.

(tried "about:config", and reset "keyword:url"; to what effect, I don't know (?)

Wow! I've never heard of that method before.

Here are some other ways that I know to change your homepage in Firefox: (which I believe you are talking about, correct me if I'm wrong)
  1. Go to Tools (in the top menu bar) and select Options.
  2. In the Options window, click the tab labeled General. (if you're not on it already)
  3. Next to "When Firefox starts:", make sure it says "Show my home page".
  4. Next to "Home Page:", type in "".
  1. Type "about:config" into the address bar.
  2. If you see a warning, click "I'll be careful, I promise!".
  3. Next to "Filter:", type in "browser.startup.homepage".
  4. Double click "browser.startup.homepage".
  5. Type in "".

Oho! Thankyou, Green Earth...

...steps 1-4 (above) yes, silly me - I should have been able to 'go figure' that one - Duh!

...steps 1-5 (above) was what I was trying... misdirected at steps 3/4* - should I now go back and reset keyword:url?
What does that do, anyway?

...step 2 (here be dragons, and my sword isn't the sharpest in the armoury!)

* I'd been following directions in FAQ # 5, and at "firefox (search from address bar)" topic here in forum, with my limited knowledge (dangerous thing, that).

"If you can't fix it, f*** it!"

Ta very muckle for your patience and forbearance.

The " keyword.url " variable tells Firefox what do if what you type in the address bar isn't a normal URL.
For example, if I were to type in " " into the address bar, I would obviously go to that web page. But if I typed in something like " duck ", Firefox will use the "keyword.url" variable to determine what to do.

By default, "keyword.url"'s value is " ", which queries Google's I'm Feeling Lucky feature. So if I were to type in " duck ", Firefox would bring me to " ", which redirects to " ", the I'm Feeling Lucky result for "duck".

If you want to use DuckDuckGo's I'm Feeling Lucky equivalent instead, change it to "! ". If you just want to use DuckDuckGo search instead, change it to " "

um - - - I knew about the little house to change your home page but I still have to use my Firefox icon on the task bar to get to duckduckgo.  Does DDG totally replace my Firefox in some way?

No, DuckDuckGo is a search engine -- not a web browser like firefox.

Another (easier?) way would be to drag the Duck Duck Icon from the upper left corner of the screen to the little house Icon in the upper right of the screen.

Up pops a "Set Home Page" box, asking:

Do you want this document to be your new home page? Select 'yes' (obviously!)
