Shift-clicking results always replaces the search results page.

I presume ctrl-click is working for you and you'd like shift-click to the same thing?

Hey :) No. Shift-click in Opera is equivalent to Ctrl-Shift-click in Chrome (open in new foreground tab). Ctrl-click is meaningless to Opera.

Incidentally, Ctrl-Shift-click (open in background) does work in Opera.

A workaround is to use a mouse gesture.  Default to open in a raised window is "Down" with the right mouse button.  (i.e. "drag" the link down).
