Technically it's not possible to have secure private mail to trust at this point, so simply dont use one.

There is a reason behind why DDG dont want to make mail service and it's because if they make one they wouldnt be able to follow their privacy policy http://ddg.gg/privacy

A U.S. law from 1986 says the government can access your email without a warrant.

While that law stands, there will not be secure email at this planet to trust. My advice would be to switch to jabber/xmpp.

It can be done if the mail is stored with encryption. See: https://countermail.com/?p=privacy
Granted they're in Sweden, but they've had request before by law enforcement to give up emails- which they were fine with because they're encrypted and can't be read by anyone but the account creator.

If you have your information stored somewhere inside of DB consider it as potential target.
In other words all those keys could be exposed or leaked. I appreciate your reply and I am aware of countermail, but I am not a huge fan of it.

Your link is broken.

Yes, hosting your own mail server would definitely work, BUT it would be secure messaging only if you are sending it to the individual that host his own mail server as well.
