How to address user?

Should translated sentences like "your ip address is..." or "DuckDuckGo enables you to search..." address the user formally like in a letter or in a more friendly way on a first-name basis?
This grammatical issue does not exist in the English language, but may appear in other languages such as German, French, Italian,...

There are probably regional differences too - would the attitude of French speakers in Canada be different to those in France or Belgium?

Informal and friendly is generally the preferred tone.

I would prefer the informal and friendly way, too. I think it's more common on the web.
