Reporting wrong translations

Hi there, my name is Ecron and I joined a few days ago to the Translation team.

But as a software translator, I miss some features in Translation Template. The most important is some tool for reporting wrong translations (like misspelled or not suitable), because I found some cases in ca_ES translation where the most voted translation was misspelled. And there's no way to report it. So please, add some kind of report tool or the option to give negative votes to translation suggestions.

Something that I miss as well is a button for requesting context, because there are some times that a simply screenshot could solve the whole problem.

Thank you very much ;)

Maybe a solution for now is to comment on the token.
As a translation manager I search and read them as often as I can. (not for ca_ES; that I really do not understand ;p )

Can't thank you enough! Quick question--what did you mean here: https://duck.co/forum/comment/37604

it's a comment on the token: https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/...

There was made a formal translation by someone, I made it invalid and added my own informal translation.
In the text I tell everyone (who wants to know) why I did this: That the policy is not to use formal.

Thanks, jbarret, I hope you implement some way to report bad translations, or, at least, some way to flag them as wrong.

I copy here the link of one of the catalan bad translation:

https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/...

In the other hand, for the context issue, I think it would be a lot better that, when adding context, instead of links, you should attach screenshots, because I found so many times that the link in the Notes section is not representative of the context (you can see some examples here: https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/... https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/... https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/... https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/... and so on. In links provided the string I have to translate doesn't appear).

At last, I would like to know which is the DuckDuckGo policy respecting formality in translations. The common translation guidelines for Catalan language establish that we must use a formal approach to translate the strings oriented to the user (as in "Are you sure you want to quit?", in Catalan would be translated as "Are you sure you want to quit, Sir?", with a medium-high level of formality).

Thank you!

Hey, sorry for the delay in replying.

I think generally, we've leaned toward more informal / friendly forms of language. Since the English we use in stuff like microsites (e.g. http://whatisdnt.com/) is pretty informal we would expect the translations to reflect that.

We trust the judgment of translators a lot to take the context into account on what form to use. If you think the formal form should be used in a given case, then please feel free to submit that and if the consensus is that it's correct it will be up-voted over time.

With the new version of DuckDuckGo, some of the URLs in older token notes currently don't expose the target token. In some cases the feature has changed and the URL is no longer valid. In others, the feature has yet to be ported across to the new version.

I am currently working on some features for the translation interface which should give people better information on where the token appears and how it looks. Reporting bad translations and retiring older tokens is also planned.

Thanks!

I'd like to necro-post this in order to get some information about the current status of the Reporting bad translations issue. In this example: https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/... we have 4 votes for a bad translation (the word doesn't even exist!!) and I submitted the correct translation almost one year ago and it hasn't been up-voted.

I feel like a tool for reporting bad translations is needed (or at least a down-vote option), because it seems like no-one is taking care of Catalan language (and maybe others) and the misspelling is there, at your official Duckduckgo.com website. It just doesn't feel right.

Thanks in advantage ;)

I just set it as invalid, your token will be chosen as default soon. Reporting it here a Translation Manager will help you. The TM for Catalan is ismab2013, this time I steal the work. :)
