what i hate about the new look

Some of us still delete all cookies on exit and as such lose the settings after each browsing session. before this was as simple as turning back on open in new tap. now the default turns on so much and the look is so different, I am looking at going back to yahoo or google. I do not care for auto recommend/completion feature at all.

Why don't you use the url from cloud save bookmarklet and make it your home page?

I use the Save Settings to the cloud and then where ever I am and what ever computer I'm using I can get my custom settings! Works well for us cookie trashers as well.

Though with the new look I wish there was an option to use the entire classic settings.

What would be neat is if they gave us the ability to make even more changes. Fonts by size, pt or px. The headline font for results is too large to me and I would like to make it smaller.

More options for colors like the search bar color - don't like white!

But mostly it's OK

I delete my cookies on exit too. And I HATE recommend/completion features.

All the things you speak of can be controlled by using DDG URL parameters. https://duckduckgo.com/params

use the parameters to create a bookmark or write your own XML file for firefox. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-...

URL parameters are AWESOME. I wish more sites used them.

You can use the "cloud" save feature to learn some of the new parameters like the switch for turning off auto-suggest. http://snag.gy/7RoDW.jpg

There's no parameter to turn off "auto-suggest."

I too want the fast, quick & tidy "old" DDG. I left google, not just because of the spying/snooping, but because their interface was just so much interfering crap.

Incorrect. Besides disabling it in Settings (Results tab) you can use:
https://duckduckgo.com/?kac=-1

Check this page for URL parameters: https://duckduckgo.com/params

And like I've said before, the new DDG settings page won't save anything I choose.

There's no parameter for Auto-suggest listed <u>On That Page.</u>

Regarding the new look, I can't say I like it but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Just some observations though which may or may not have anything to do with the changes. I was looking for some info on Jill Abramson concerning the NYT firing and misspelled her name with an "h". I got her Wiki bio and a bunch of listings for Jill Abrahamson. So I went to go Google and quickly got what I was looking for.

OK, maybe my bad but still the bad guy got me what I wanted.

It also took me three tries on DDG to find the TomoNews animation of the event, and I ended up using Google in my Pinch Stuffed Moose search regarding Pinch Sulzberger's stuffed moose.

I hate almost everything about it. Especially the auto-completion...Autosuggest or whatever they are calling it these days.

I switched to google to get away from yahoo's satanically annoying clown show.
google was nice, quiet, unobtrusive...and was fine at first. Then look what happend...and yes what a nerve making you keep cookies to save your settings (Auto Complete Off!!)

I switched to DDG to get away from google's new annoying and useless 'enhancements'.
Now it seems to be happening again here with DDG.

URL Parameters are nice but wheretf is the setting to turn Autosuggest off?
Cloud shmoud... a PITA like the URL Parameters.

How about another url without all the stupid flare? 'duckduckgo-nobs.com' or something where there is nothing but a text box and a button...almost like it used to be.

HI, I did not select the whole appt., just the search, and making duck my open page; something like that.

My main reason for abandoning google, was that I was looking for a free movie< ok? I stopped doing that; there are no NEW free movies anywhere; they are all blocked, even you tube) but guess what was happeniing to my google searches? they were getting cut off, and blocked. it finally showed up on the detail, as "O.S.N.Oregon Survelliance Network", a website. They were indicated as the "Security" blocking me off on google from even LOOKING, SEARCHING for a free movie on google, on the Web! So here in Oregon, I was cut off in the state of Oregon, USA, and it wws google they were latching onto.

BOY, is that enough to make you paranoid? I called up my favorite local radio show, here in Eugene-Springfield, OR, and told about it, to them, right over the air.The guys on the radio instantly looked up "O.S.N." and the info, claimed they were a gambling-casino-security co. HA HA. SO if that's true, why did they sign their detaill as the people censoring my link? i was not searching for casinos! The guys on the radio laughed, and said"they CLAIM to be a casino security co,. itt might not be true at all!"and the radio host said, "everything you say, or do on line is now spied on! you cannot get any privacy on it, even searches or email."

They were right, so I have dumped google for duckduckgo search. Your ad says duck is not tracking you.I'm so sick of all of googles' intrusiveness!! If I wanta look for a free movie, hey, there are free legal movies too!Excuse the bad typing; I see now that ALL THE WEB IS SPIED ON NOW, and there's no freedom left on it.

But I am giving duck-search a go, because google seems to let spying go on,, & track everything you do on google. Even a local Oregon survelliance network. (O.S.N.) I was not miistaken about them cutting off my search. I wonder now if other states in the USA, have their own "state survaillance Network" too. Here, I am going to try & avoid taking any new apps or stuff, except for duckduckgo search engine. (and open page. (HOW DO I PUT A GIF OFF MT DOWNLOADS, ONTO THIS NOTE? ANYONE KNOW?) Thank you.

I guess many of us came to DDG for many different reasons, the reason I came looking for a new search engine in the first place was because of auto recommend/completion, It franky fk's me off.
To see it here now makes my teeth itch, the default should be OFF, if people want it it should be applied via their personal settings.

That's my two penneth worth.

I hate the word "hate" but I hate this new format anyway. I have Startpage as my homepage but was almost ready to stop using it entirely because I loved the old DDG. When I went to use it yesterday, I saw this new stuff and thought something was wrong with my computer.
I don't even allow my browser to give me suggestions when typing in the address bar...I don't like that.
No need to say much I guess except that now I will definitely look for a different search engine because you've almost totally ruined the one I enjoyed. Sorry!

i hate that people look at the defaults and find minor things to hate then drop hate posts instead of just adjusting the settings to the way they like it

if you don't like autocomplete turn it off
posted by buckeye 3 years and 9 months ago Link

It being the default is against some basic philosophy of DDG.
Autocomplete bubble the user in "what is the most searched"
posted by <hidden> • 3 years and 9 months ago Link

Indeed, auto-complete is essentially path-of-least-resistance bubbling. It wouldn't be so bad, but I've noticed I have to reset the setting to "classic" etc every time I restart a browser or computer. The settings don't seem to be saving. This is on multiple computers.

Oh come on, this "bubbling" that DDG now does is annoying. I just searched "ebay hackers", without asking for !news or anything, and I get three pages of pure news, then actual search returns. Stop it! Bad DDG!

Is "Instant Answers" the bug/feature that's doing this? Why would I want that, if it was?

Nope. How do I turn off the "targetted" returns?

Have you tried changing your theme to Retro? It's available as a theme in the Settings menu under the, "look and feel" tab
