bang localisation

My idea is to make popular bangs localise properly!

For example, it would be great in the a UK if using " a!" went to amazon.co.uk and " e!" went to ebay.co.uk, etc. And the same for many other countries.

You can use the geotag in the header to tell what country the user is in, and then do something like:

if(amazon)
switch(country_code) {
us: amazon.com
uk: amazon.co.uk
de: amazon.de
jp: amazon.jp
default: amazon.com
}

I would especially LOVE to see amazon(a), ebay(e) and google shopping(gs) fixed like this...

At the moment my workaround is to do "search a!", then back tab to the address bar and change the ".com" to ".co.uk" which is a bit of a pain...

Current !bang system works this way and individual !bangs, like !amde fit this same purpose : )

You guys are AMAZING! I'm in so much admiration for you.

It would be good if this info was promoted more somehow. I've been looking for this info for a few months and only came across this site yesterday.

Thanks though!

Well, default localisation works for amazon (a!=amazon.co.uk) but not for ebay (e!=ebay.com) or google shopping (gs!=google*.com) {after only a little testing}.

It seems some work is required here and more bangs need to be localised properly (perhaps you can escalate this bug?).

It's very useful to know euk!, gsuk!, etc in the mean time though! But fixing more of these will save 50% of bang typing (eg: "euk!"->"e!") which is a great saving over time. Thanks!

Thanks for the bug report and the suggestion. We've added a little blurb to the help page here: http://help.duckduckgo.com/customer/port...

We'll take a look at the non-regionalized !bangs you reported : )

This is currently how it works--if you adjust your region in the DuckDuckGo Settings menu: https://duckduckgo.com/settings

There are also individual !bangs for each country (for popular domains):

!amca !amcn !amde !amit !amfr !amjp !amuk

If you don't see one you'd like, feel free to submit your own at: https://duckduckgo.com/newbang
