Well, we can't use Google's...they'll attach some sort of analytics plugin with it. This is something I have actually came up with, however only for one word, as multi-word sentences being translated automatically would put strain on the servers and cause some latency.

Even one word is enough, later you can ask people to help for the translating ... like you already did

It would be interesting to use a open-source tool like http://tatoeba.org

It's like a wiki, where anyone can contribute to translate in their own language a sentence or create a new one. It' all about sentences.

On the long run, they will create an API to use in other projects. It seems promising to me.

There is anothe open-source tool called apertium, who is the equivalent to google translate.
It actually can translate into 40 pairs of languages, it has even an API :)
