The current result for a search for "qr code <URL>" is just rendering a QR code made of divs. It is just not an image, so it can't be copied/saved locally on the users computer/smartphone/tablet or other device.

I think this is a shame :-(
Maybe you could make the QR code as an image?

See these links for an example, on the use of a service, that makes this possible

http://qrserver.com/api/documentation/cr...
http://qrserver.com/api/

I would love, if you could make it possible to set the parameters, whick the api is providing, e.g. size, error correction codes, margin etc. :-D

Copying to clipboard requires flash, but maybe it could be loaded upon click and not initially. We've come across this problem in other areas.

A while back I started porting some QR code generation routines to Perl (there are currently no pure-Perl implementations). It's still a broken work in progress, but fwiw: https://github.com/mstratman/Barcode-QRC...

It will eventually become the backend for HTML::Barcode::QRCode, which currently requires libqrencode. (https://metacpan.org/module/HTML::Barcod... or on github: https://github.com/mstratman/HTML-Barcod...)

If you are okay with a dependency of libqrencode (and Text::QRCode), I'd be happy to write a DuckDuckGo plugin for it right away. It sounds like a fun project.

But if not, that's all the more reason for me to get motivated and revisit the Barcode::QRCode project :)

Ok - i tried leaving a comment twice and it never shows up. Is it because it has a url in it?

Anyway, I wrote Perl modules for working QR codes (notably one that renders HTML - which is perfect for this), but they require libqrencode.
If that's acceptable, then I can have something in a moment.

But that's probably not ideal, and I'm actually in the midst of implementing a QR code generator in pure perl. It's on github, not yet on cpan as it still has a few kinks to be worked out. If this sounds like how you'd want it implemented, i can try to bump up its timeline a bit.
