a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Ghostery Blocking redirects from ads 4 years and 1 month ago
No, I'm not speaking of the redirect function. Ghostery is actually Blocking the site that exists for tracking purposes only, e. g. "pixel.everesttech.net" if you click on this link. Ghostery complains about a redirection to a tracking site (like a beacon) which immediately redirects you to the destination site - which is basically the same the DDG redirect function does with the difference that r.duckduckgo.com doesn't exist for tracking purposes.
I'm sorry if my English isn't very good and hope I've explained why this isn't the normal redirect function.

I've often seen, that when you click on a sponsored link in DDG Ghostery blocks the site saying "Ghostery prevented a redirect from
r.duckduckgo.com to <some site>, which is part of <some tracker>". Is this necessary in some way? Could you prevent it? In the end DDG is a privacy-focused search engine and maybe tracking sponsored ads (although not directly provided by DDG) shouldn't appear there.
Example: first ad on this page
a comment on the Instant Answer Idea "calculate" as trigger for Wolfram|Alpha Query (always) 4 years and 1 month ago
More definition:

For example when you search in DDG for "sum from n=0 to infinity of 1/n!" no IAs show up. Wolfram|Alpha of course can tell you that this equals e. My idea would be that when you would search for "calculate sum from n=0 to infinity of 1/n!" DDG would retrieve the answer (=e) from Wolfram|Alpha and show it directly as an instant answer on the results page.

Why this would be an improvement:
1st:
It would be quicker (like @Salutlolo pointed out) probably because you don't have to load all the extra infos from W|A (alternate representations, Graph, etc.)

2nd:
IAs are thought to provide answers to users searches (if possible). If you search for "calculate <something>" the obvious answer would be to give you the result (if existent).

3rd:
Probably there are some users that don't know the !wa bang. "calculate" is a lot more straightforward.

it might be a nice idea to make a general easter egg goodie for Question => Answer easter eggs (like "make me a sandwich", "Valar Morgulis" and this one) so you just would have to, for example, add the Question and the Answer to a text file in order to create a new easter egg.

Maybe it would be a solution to let users make their own (tweaked) themes which would get stored in their cookies and displayed when they should select a theme.

a comment on the General Rambling Region in url 4 years and 3 months ago
I noticed that when you use the region:<region> syntax in your search, you region isn't displayed in the (I think recently added) Region button nor saved for your next search. I think implementing this would be an improvement.
a comment on the General Rambling "new" DuckDUckGo in Tor Browser 4 years and 4 months ago
Tor Browser still uses duckduckgo.com/html/ as search engine wen you use DuckDuckGo, so you miss all the new stuff when using Tor. I've tried to delete the original DuckDuckGo search engine in Tor Browser and adding the "new" Search Engine, but it didn't work. It basically said that I already had DuckDuckGo as a search engine. Installing the DDG addon didn't work, too. Maybe you could set up the "new" version at duckduckgo.com/html/ since the problem with the canvas doesn't seem to exist any more. Or is there a way to replace the "old" DDG with the "new" DDG in Tor Browser?

It doesn't happen on chrome (or at least SRWare Iron), too.
