I think it is important to have a discretionary filter so if someone is searching images at their place of employment, the results will not include pornographic or other controversial images. Filter should likewise be allowed to completely be shut off.

I think it would be great to allow users to upload images and set their own keywords/phrases, descriptions, dimensions, colors, etc. for those images. It would probably help increase your registration base as well.
a comment on the Instant Answer Idea Converting uppercase to lowercase, and vice versa 4 years and 8 months ago
Sorry, but I don't think this is the same thing that the user is requesting. This only uppers or lowers, but what about both? Basically if you type something with CAPS on it would reverse everything; upper to lower and lower to upper. For example...

tHIS IS A TEST

would become...

This is a test

I posted something similar to general ramblings. Here is what I said.

--------------

Every type a whole bunch of stuff and notice that you left your CAPS lock on. It would be great if someone created goodie to convert a string to the opposite so that all the lower case letters become upper case and the upper case letters become lower case.

I did not see anything currently for this so I thought I would mention it.

It would be nice to allow users to define a quick menu that loads at the top of DDG (if logged in) by selecting links from a list of options (News, Images, Maps, Weather, etc) and arrange them however they like.

There are tons of ideas for DDG, but a user has to sift through them all to see if an idea that he/she has is already listed. It would be great to group these ideas into major/minor categories like News, Images, Weather, Maps, Apps, Goodies, Widgets, etc. so that we can quickly search them before posting new ideas.

There are two major things that I think DDG must institute to aggressively compete with Google...News and Images. There is clearly great interest for both, but being that this is the place for News related ideas, I will offer a few of my own on that topic.

I think a good news site should include the following...

1) Have it's own framework, separate from the standard DDG search results, so as to clearly differentiate between the two.
2) Allow full page view with categories to the left.
3) Aggregate RSS feeds from unlimited resources and store them in a news database.
4) Store various attributes about the feed such as topic, region, description, genre, date, resource, author, etc. so as to organize and group them by the same.
5) Should have a search box for searching just the news feeds.
6) Provide a DDG preview page of the feed with links to the resource's article (open in new tab).
6) Allow user comments to be appended to the end of a news preview (preview page).
AND
7) Not necessary, but would be cool to allow amateur bloggers to contribute to the news pool to build their own news portfolio.

I have developed an aggregator that I would be happy to contribute to the cause. It is either in VB or PHP (can't remember which at the present time). It will store RSS resources and check for updated feeds every x-seconds and download them when they exist. It would need some work, but I think it could be a good foundation for a great news site to compete with G-news.

I am not sure if users can email me about this, but I will follow this post. But Gabe, you can dig up my email from your db and get hold of me if you're interested.

It looks like this is well underway, but I thought I would mention that I have a pretty good regex pattern I use for email validation that might help this task.
