a comment on the Instant Answer Idea DuckDuckGo needs image search! Well I have alternative solution ! 4 years and 20 days ago
Thank a lot for the suggestion!

Unfortunately it looks like the Imgur API requires the use of OAuth which currently the Spice instant are unable to support/implement. If they were to allow the use of API keys as an alternative form of authentication, then an Imgur Spice instant answer could definitely be created.

We often suggest our developers reach out to the the API providers to see if they can make an exception, so you're welcome to ask Imgur if they plan on supporting the use of API Keys as an alternative.

For what it's worth, images are definitely something we have in mind, but in the meantime DuckDuckGo users can use our bang syntax, e.g. "grumpy cat !bi" which in this case, will perform an image search on Bing.

a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Anyone know if there is a way to set up the DDG search bar as my persistent search bar? 4 years and 24 days ago
I highly suggest you try out Nova Launcher then! It allows you to remove the Google search widget and then you can use the DDG Widget which is included with our Android App
a reply to a comment on the Instant Answer Idea doing a search for "'pokemon' stats" returns the pokemon's associated stats 4 years and 27 days ago
Well if a Fathead were to be made, the developer would have full control over what data is used to build the instant answer, so ideally it would only show the most important, relevant information.

Yup that could work. A hash would need to be made in the Spice's Perl code so we can figure out the required API call. The downside to this method though is that if this list ever changes, the hash would need to be updated.

Alternatively we could call this API first, but it's best to avoid multiple API calls as that is much slower.

Although the PokéAPI is great, it looks like its missing a search endpoint which is what we would need, or a mapping of Pokemon names to their ID, so we can get the right information for a given search. Seeing as most of this data is quite static I think the Pokedex from Veekun would be an ideal data source for a Fathead (or potentially a Longtail) instant answer.

Thanks for reporting this Hanz!

After a quick check, it looks like the `<` and `>` are being improperly escaped by the API which this instant answer is using, called SearchCode. I will make an issue on GitHub and ask them to look into it.

This problem should only exist for any instant answers that are provided by SearchCode, everything else should work correctly.

It looks like the links on the page are all downloads for WiseFixer.exe - which is apparently legitimate software, although that particular site looks a bit spammy.
