Hi,

Go to DDG and search "is [whatever the xmpp server's adress is] up".

If it responds "It took us 0.04 seconds to get a 301 response from 23.21.227.59. " then it's up.

If it responds "It took us seconds to get a response from sdgsesgs.com." then it's not (this is a bug with the instant answer; I made a forum post about it but it didn't show up. :/)

Hi,

My previous thought for a logo (King Duncan) was turned down. Mwatermelon stated

"King Duncan doesn't meet the critaria for a ddg logo :/ "

I'd have to agree.

Thus, I have produced two logos for the month of August that I think might meet the criteria (again, I don't know what the criteria are, but I'm guessing it's "events/important/worldwide/non-offensive").

- August 29th: International Day against Nuclear Tests - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internation... - png, GIMP
- August 30th: International Day of the Disappeared - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internation... - svg, InkScape

Sorry, please clarify: "examples to add to our testing set"?

Assuming you mean other settings for personalized ranking:
- How much priority to give "https://*" sites
- Whether to filter out supposed "Content Mills"
- How much SafeSearch screening
- IP from here: click anywhere on a large map of the world and results served from closer to that location given priority (not just country and language specific)

Hi,

I created this logo for a bit of fun. It is themed on an image at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co.... It depicts DDG's lovable Dax as King Duncan I of Scotland.

Why August 15th? "1040 – King Duncan I is killed in battle against his first cousin and rival Macbeth. The latter succeeds him as King of Scotland." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_15th

Okay, the battle is too gory to depict. But I thought it would be fun to make the logo of Duncan (perhaps the next day we could have the new King McBeth).

I made a comment on this thought a bit back. This would make DDG quite useful, for example, when it's relevancy algorithms produced old stuff when you are looking for one day old news stories.

Hi,

On the right hand side of results, just below the instant answers ribbon, you should see a stylized globe, perhaps with the text "No Region:". Click on it and a of countries and their languages will appear. Select one and the page will reload with your new, region-tailored results.

Hi,

A post I made seems to only be visible when I'm logged into my user. It is titled:
- Is Site.com Up Incorrect On Some [https://duck.co/forum/thread/9491/is-sit...]

I can't see if this happens in other user's as me testing would violate forum rules ("one user per person").

a reply to a comment on the General Rambling What Browser should I use? 4 years and 1 month ago
Hi,

As I understand it, it is unlikely that Chrome and IE are sharing cookies. Even if they are, it wouldn't leak your searches, as DuckDuckGo in no way saves your searches (or anything about you but for your settings) in it's cookies.

There is a possibility that one browser is snooping on the other, but this would be unlikely as both browsers have reputations to maintain.

It is also likely that Chrome (run by Google) is logging what you do on DDG (in fact, everywhere), and is then using that information to target AdSense (etc.) ads to you.

Finally, Google can snoop on traffic on any sites that use their services (though there is only proof of them doing it with DoubleClick/AdSense). There are very few prominent sites now that don't use Google APIs or something like it. The obvious exceptions would be:
- DuckDuckGo.com - because they support privacy
- Bing.com - because they don't like Google (and can get along without them)
- Wikipedia, Wikimedia, Wikibooks (all wikis run by the Wikimedia Foundation)
- And some others

Now that I have depressed you as much as I can, I will present hope:

Get Firefox and install the NoScript add-on with it. This will stop all snooping using scripts and most intrusive ads. It will also stop Google from seeing all your traffic through it's Chrome browser.

Uninstall Chrome. Firefox will have allowed you to copy bookmarks and history from Chrome and you can do this if you want. Once done, just get rid of Chrome.

If you are using Windows, don't uninstall IE, though I'd love to tell you to do so. It's good to have a back-up browser ready if one fails for a moment.

Cheers,
