If you have the latest version of Mavericks, DDG is one of the default search engines. Safari > Preferences... > Search > Make DDG the search engine. Hope this helps!

I agree with all the 2 commenters above me. I'd rather DDG spend all their time, energy, and resources creating the best search engine possible and taking down Google than fiddling around with a browser. Maybe sometime in the future but not now.

You can turn this off. Go to System Preferences > Spotlight > Search Results > Untick the 'Bing Web Searches' box.

In addition,

Go to Safari > Preferences... > Search > Untick the 'Include Spotlight Suggestions'

There ya go! Now you're all safe and cozy again.

One of the greatest aspects of DDG is that it doesn't collect user data. Unfortunately, for social media to be effective, it uses loads of user data to tailor its content to fit specific people. I doubt the DDG team will be creating any social networking platforms anytime soon. Maybe a better suggestion would be for an email service that boasts the same level of privacy.
a comment on the General Rambling Feature Request - Quack Results 3 years and 11 months ago
Guys...hold the phone...I have an amazing idea for when you search something on DDG. Maybe as a configurable option, it would be possible to add a quacking sound to search results when you press enter. Not only would it make the experience more immersive, but it would also attract users to flee Google.

Example (an actual conversation with a friend):

"Wouldn't it be awesome and hilarious if DDG quacked when you pressed enter for search results?"

"Yeah, that would be."

"Like, I could say to Google users: yeah, Google, but this search engine QUACKS."

There is another added benefit for this feature as well: the term quacking could, over time, become synonymous with the word searching, just as Googling has become. I'd rather be known as a quacker than a Googler. I know some people wouldn't like the quacking sound, but never fear! The option could be configurable.

In conclusion, this feature could not only expand the user-base of DDG greatly, but it could also help to establish the DDG name/image. Also, if this feature is actually implemented, I would literally diieeeeee of happiness.

Best regards,

Surseance

Simple! If you use Safari, simple Click Safari > Preferences...

Then, click Search. The first option will ask "Search engine:" and so you can just add DDG as your default search engine. If you don't use Safari, well, then you shoulda told us! :P

Lemme know if you still need help!

Best regards,
