a reply to a comment on the General Rambling How to make DDG the preferred Provider on the main search line in Opera? 2 years and 2 months ago
Which version of Opera are you using?

I use an old version of Opera (11 and 12), that is before it moved all its core to chromium (and wrecked many good details it had for several years). IMHO, Opera is only good until version 12 - and very very good. :)

Have you heard about Vivaldi browser??? Maybe you'll like it much more than Opera, today. :)

Right now it is a beta version, but don't worry about it. It is very very good in everything it has done as improvement to the core it uses, and much more to come when it reaches the first end user version.

a comment on the General Rambling I think it is a bug: results are different for these two pages?! 2 years and 2 months ago
I change the region of my results to Brazil. Then I make any search. For example:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=buscar+rimas

Then I go to some page in these results, read it a little bit, but then I conclude that another result was possibly good too. Then I search again, using my browser search feature, and go to page:

https://duckduckgo.com/html/?q=buscar+ri...

But the results are completely different. And the second URL does not seem to be regionalized, as I asked DDG to do.

I want to keep my browser configuration as it is: direct the searches to /html/ instead of a normal search.

Sad to know that.

And I disagree that this is impossible. I don't know why it is this way in DDG, but maybe examples are good to ilustrate that:

In https://projecteuler.net/ we have two possible themes. In our user preferences we choose which theme we'll use, from a list of two (that, of course, could be bigger).

Wikipedia, without JS, have a very big list of themes we can choose. And it will work very well.

The fact that these two examples are associated with an user account is not important, since we obviously can make the examples work with any site interaction we choose. The fact it: the pages will change themselves based on cookie values, with a small defined set of possible values.

Duckduckgo, please make this possibility feasible too for us.
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Need google results without !g 2 years and 2 months ago
When you use any search engine that you don't agree with its practices, in any possible way you can use it, you are practically saying to other search engines that the bad practices of the engine you choose are actually good - since you chose it! Further, you get no anonymity by using DDG's bangs, within the other pages. If you simply go to google from the start, your anonymity stays at the exact same level when you go to DDG and use a "!g". In fact, your anonymity can be a bit worse, depending on the browser you choose to use...

Search engines are things that get better with all increments of use and users it has. Some search engines are eventually better (for specific searches) because more users used it (also, for specific searches). The other engines may take a bit more time to achieve those results.

So, if you like Duckduckgo's philosophy, use the best that Duckduckgo (itself!) has to offer. The results are often great, and manytimes even better than other search engines'. Eventually I compare them, for difficult searches. Duckduckgo, Yandex. Bing, Yahoo, Gigablast, Google... there are many! Your world is as big as mine - if you want. :)

I think we need these settings working in JS-less duckduckgo too. Is it possible? Feasible? I really don't like the JS page so much... the other one is better, faster and looks (for me) much better! :)

And may duck.co have an option setup to choose theme? These light grays in white background are tiring... if it was lights out I would stay around much more minutes... I'm stopping now only for this.

See you around.
a reply to a comment on the token Click the %s...%s icon at the top right: in the domain DuckDuckGo.com for the language Portuguese of Brazil 2 years and 2 months ago

a comment on the General Rambling Token 134732, PT-BR, invalid translations (in use and in some other suggestions) 2 years and 2 months ago
The token https://duck.co/translate/tokenlanguage/... seems to cause a common misunderstanding: there is no space between the second %s and the previous dots. The "." character there is left aligned in its surrounding space, so it looks like it has a space to its right - except that's incorrect. This could be noted, for every language.

The consequence of this issue is that there were 3 incorrect suggestions, and all with it. Further, among these suggestions, two of them are incorrectly translated (the resulting string will not be clearly understood by Brazilian Portuguese speakers, since it's wrong).

I added a suggestion there, but it can't be used since there are votes for the invalid translations. This is another example of an use case that the translation interface needs a better way to mark translations as invalid ones; or to down vote translations to bring attention to their problem for future passing by translators - whatever is easier to develop now would be a progress, though.

That's right. I also think there is no space there. This should be reported in the fora, so the other translations are marked as invalid. I added another translation there, one that should be better. Now it needs votes...
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Something very bad: use of invalid token as translation? 2 years and 2 months ago
I have done that too, just a simple mistake. But we can't remove errors from those suggestions, and we can't vote as wrong or even invalid suggestions (which could help in situations like that).

It's gone now. The invalid one is not being used and has no vote, although still there to someone vote in it by mistake... lol
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Strange error in a Portuguese BR token (or bad translation reuse?) 2 years and 2 months ago
The "lite" pointed from that page is not the HTML version (which has no link to. I don't know the exact use of which. My post there assumed (probably wrong) that both would be the same: lite version and HTML version.

3 different pages:

https://duckduckgo.com/html

https://duckduckgo.com/lite

https://duckduckgo.com/

The lite one I did not know about until yesterday. So my suggestion should be changed to include it (ht "lite" word is a link; HTML word is not. Correct?!).
