Found DDG Lite ... https://duckduckgo.com/lite
- I see what you mean, no preferences

Also found DDG HTML version mozilla addon/extension ... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...

I will stay with the primary https://duckduckgo.com/ especially for its "preferences" and hide the the search engine that doesn't track you. Learn more" ? with adbolockers. If they cause problems, I will try "uBlock"

Thanks again :)

Thank you x.15a2 for your reply :)

DDG is my default search engine, so how does that bypass the DDG home page completely ? What is the URL of the resulting page ?

I have resolved hiding the message/text/link ...
the search engine that doesn't track you. Learn more" ?

In Palemoon using ABL "Adblock Latitude" (ad blocker) and in Firefox ABP "AdBlock Plus" both with support Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus (mozilla extension) installed too.

RightClick ABL icon (in PaleMoon) or ABL icon (in Firefox) and use "Select an element to Hide" ... bingo ! ... and the the search engine that doesn't track you. Learn more" ? text and link are gone. Easily undone if necessary.

Thank you :)

How can I hide the text/link "the search engine that doesn't track you. Learn more"
I have been using DDG for 4+ years, way before "blinders" experiment
I chose DDG 4+ years ago because it doesn't track me
I am the only user of my PCs
I dont want to learn more
I am using the DDG cloud to backup my preferences, and preferences cookies are perpetuated between sessions.

Advertisements
Browser Instructions
Homepage Animations
... are all disabled "OFF"

How can I hide/remove the message/text under the search bar ..."the search engine that doesn't track you. Learn more" ?
- is there an "about:<protocol>" used for DDG ?

Various searches of the web and this forum have failed to return one result, except why I should use DDG.

I would appreciate any help, thank you :)

a comment on the General Rambling Pass phrase life expectancy ? 2 years and 2 months ago
Since November 2013 (in the old forum) I have struggled to understand how pass-phrases actually work, I understand the intended benefits
The major focus in https://duck.co/help/settings/save ... is on how secure are pass-phrases ... which is irrelevant to me.
I do understand a unique pass-phrase is an anonymous ID to my DDG cloud settings.

Is there any way of recycling my pass-phrase instead of creating a new pass-phrase every time I want to tweak my settings ?
- I am running out of wall space to write the latest pass-phrase on ;)
I don't want multiple settings, just one settings record will do me nicely

URL parameters are OK until I want to copy the search result URL into my research documents, where the URL string is extremely long

I am starting to suspect reference to my pass-phrase (whatever coded form it is in) is stored as a cookie in my browser, that identifies my (anonymous) settings. If all my cookies are 'Cleared" at any point, I suspect the critical pass-phrase cookie is deleted too.
If a pass-phrase cookie is deleted the concept of cloud settings are no more practical than a simple {Save and Exit} that saves settings as a cookie on my browser.

If cloud settings are changed by one PC operator in a group, that operator has to advise all seats of the new password ?

Q: does DDG use a cookie to store the anonymous reference to my cloud settings ?
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Block Duckduckgo install pop-up - how to? 2 years and 2 months ago
Turning custom setting OFF is just half the process
The "Save and Exit" button/control at the very bottom of the settings list will add a settings cookie to your browser.
-----
If you are using Palemoon browser:
Cookies from DDG can be protected (almost) against deleting cookies on session end, by adding https://duckduckgo.com/ to "Exceptions"
(This will not preserve the DDG cookie if "Clear all cookies" is used, "Clear all cookies" does exactly what it says ... !

Otherwise x.15a2's post gives some other preserve settings methods :)
a comment on the General Rambling Yahoo partnership 2 years and 4 months ago
In my experience over many years I have always avoided "Yahoo" on results pages.
I have found their search results to be irrelevant to my search, loaded with a lot of marketing "buy me" links

When I search the web now with DDG how much is Yahoo search-engine input ?
case in point:
1. how to find DVD burner model on Toshiba
- plenty of results to sell me Toshiba, sell me DVD/CD drives, online converters
2. how to copy USB data to DVD ?
- loads of DVD to USB -- mostly apps "DVD to USB -- no "how to"
- after 45 minutes of scrolling down the results list ... I gave up

Whenever I want to buy something I use Startpage/Ixquick

Its very difficult to escape the clutches of Google, YouTube and they "gotcha"

I am very concerned about "Yahoo" as I find their results very weak, and mostly irrelevant
a comment on the General Rambling Flash Player OR watch here, what or where is here ? 3 years and 9 months ago
While testing IE's behaviour with YouTube I am presented with ...

<image attached >

Usually I click on "Watch Here"
- it plays OK - but where or what is "here" ?

The "Settings" link on the alert took me to DDG settings https://duckduckgo.com/settings#privacy
- I suspect "Video Playback" is a DDG setting I must edit
- there are three options
1. Prompt me (I guess is the default)
2. Always play me on DDG
3. Open on third paty site

... normally I use PaleMoon browser and IE is for for emergencies only, or when I am desparate.
Today I uninstalled Flash Player on my PC using the Adobe uninstaller
- it definitely removes the PaleMoon plugin ... but I don't know if it removes Flash ActiveX (?) from IE.

Flash Players latest fiasco has left me wary of what I install, so today I clean installed the non-IE plugin, for Palemoon/Firefox.

I don't know what [2.] above uses to render the YouTube . Is it HTML5 ?
And what does [3.] represent ... Flash, HTML5 or something else?

My favourite browser is PaleMoon with DDG as my preferred search engine.
- I don't use the cloud to store settings because I was always losing them, and now append the DDG URL with parameter codes. Several DDG buttons on Palemoon toolbar.

Could anyone point me to a wiki or tutorial/explanation of 'Video Settings" and how do I get to the settings page again ... please ?

Thank you in advance

a comment on the General Rambling DDG for Macbook PRO 4 years and 1 month ago
Daughter has MacBook PRO (for University research)
- she has been using macbook browser and getting a lot of junk (bubble affect)
- when she saw how quickly I can do technical research on my Win7/Palemoon/DDG combo she has taken over my PC

(I know nothing about Apple/Mac ... I am 20 years Windows and dabbling in Linux)

Q1:Can she use DDG on her Macbook ?

Q2:If so how?

I found iTunes for DDG but a search of DDG forum turns up many problems, not a lot of happy campers.
