A very (embarrassingly) belated thank you
I added a bookmark to my Palemoon "Bookmarks Toolbar"
Location:= https://duckduckgo.com/?kaa=p

And made the "Startup" page setting ...
https://duckduckgo.com/?kaa=p
ie,
Palemoon > Menubar > Options > General (tab)
When Palemoon starts:= Show my home pae
Home Page:= https://duckduckgo.com/?kaa=p

And all visted links are colored purple

Settings do not stick.
- I have ONE settings ... Visited links "Purple"

Each time I open Palemoon (browser) DuckDuckGo settings are lost.
Before searching for anything I have to open https://duckduckgo.com/settings and manually re-select my preference, Visited links "Purple"

I have saved DDG settings with a password.
When I "Load" my settings (using the password) my preferences are listed correctly.

To ensure settings are retained between Palemoon sessions ...
1. I open the settings window https://duckduckgo.com/settings
2. Load my existing preferences from the DDG cloud
3. Edit my preferences
4. Save my preferences using the original password

Why are my preferences ignored in spite of being saved ?
I am not using a proxy server.

Palemoon is configured to delete all history and cookies when Palemoon is closed.

When the loaded preferences are displayed the only option buttons available are ...
[Disable] and [Delete my data]
... the latter is THE only way I can create my preferences AGAIN ... then save to the cloud using the original password.
The only way to quit the settings "page" is to close the settings tab in my browser.

What does "Anonymous Clould Save Enabled" actually represent/do/mean ?

The HTML link (at the bottom of of the settings page) only opens https://duckduckgo.com/html DDG search !
Irrespective of whether I open the link with left-click or opt for a new tab with right-click context menu.

What am I doing wrong ?

Would appreciate ANY help ... :)

I have just quit my browser, and all my settings have been lost in spite of saving to the cloud ?

As I see it Settings can be saved in various ways
1. Saved as Cookie
- changes made on the fly
- a small message "glows" next to the changed field-setting for about 2 seconds
- changes are lost when browser is closed (if cookies are deleted on browser quit)
2. Save to to cloud
- changes have been saved as a cookie (as in [1])
- a pass-phrase (password) of my creation is saved on my PC, which identifies my settings in the cloud
- each time I use DDG my settings are applied from the cloud
- new settings cannot be added to existing cloud data,
the existing cloud-data must be downloaded ... changes made to settings ... then saved to the cloud again
Pass phrase/password can be recycled or a new pass-phrase used
3. DDG-engine URL parameters
- settings are appended onto the DDG-engine URL as codes
eg, kaa=p&ku=1&kn=-1 in https://duckduckgo.com/?kaa=p&ku=1&kn=-1
- the pre-assembled compound URL can be copied directly from the Settings page in [Bookmarklets and settings data] link (very small link at bottom left of the Settings (dialog)
- copied coded-URL is then used as the DDG-engine opener (URL)

I have read https://duck.co/help/settings/save ... not the easiest read for an old noobie

Is my summary correct ?
---------

Saved to the cloud?
- I currently use next-duckgo and old-duckgo
- will the cloud settings be applied to both OR must I save settings for each DDG version ?
- will codes work with Duckgo-Blinders URL ?

Thank you :)

I have been using DDG since 2011 (or maybe earlier), when there was no forum, just emails.

Is Blinders still relevant ?
- it sometimes draws a single blank and occasionally (rarely) a double blank. But that is OK with me.

I use DDG for technical research -- virtually eliminates the buy-me buy-me crud
And StartPage for shopping and on the extremely rare occasions when DDG is blank.

No complaints about DDG in any way. I do not want DDG to mimic google. Google has been relegated to the last item in SearchEngines.
I really detest G's geographical-bubble, when there is the entire planet out "there"

I am glad to help with next-duck ... it is on my PaleMoon toolbar as the research search-engine (along with old-duck + blind-duck)

Gotta have fun with abbreviations >:D
