This is great, Brian, I will look this up today and see how I go. Thank you!

Thanks, Zac. I didn’t know this existed till Jaryd told me about it yesterday. It works fine although I can’t turn SafeSearch off.

Hi Jaryd:

I’ve given it a shot. It’s nice and quick to load, which is great. No options and safe search is on by default, but at least it’s not Google, and that is a good thing. Thanks again.

Thank you, Jaryd. I didn’t know it existed, but I’ll have a look next time I have my cellphone on me.

It’s a shame that some of us are being cut out—it’s not exactly an ancient phone (I am sure to the tech-savvy it is, but not everyone is tech-savvy).

Hi guys:

I’ve been having this trouble since the beta, and recorded this at the forum two months ago, but I haven’t had time to take screen shots till now.

I’m on an older phone, and it seems DDG does not work. It’s Android, and I think it might be 4.0.1. Dolphin browser is at the latest.

This is a serious enough error: nothing comes up. I cannot type anything into the search box because no keyboard appears.

This has worsened since the beta because, then, I could reload the page a few times and eventually, one time I would be able to type in the box—as long as the character was not a shifted one (so goodbye bangs and uppercase).

So, just for the privilege of using DDG, I decided I would use the standard browser that comes with Android—even though it is Google. And I hate Google. But that does not work either. The keyboard comes up all right, but the second I click in the search box, I get Google!

I’m one of those guys who dislikes Google on principle, and saw DDG as an alternative, but not if you use the default Android browser! It just sends you to Google!

My theory, and I am no technician, is that your linked fonts are causing this, because to get around this, I used to bookmark a settings’ page and type the search in from there. The typeface that appeared in the search box is the standard Droid one, and it worked fine. However, even that stopped working recently (probably because you guys redid that page).

The sad thing is that as of today, your desktop version has taken a giant step backwards, but that’s in another thread. I’m one of the biggest DDG fans out there—to the point of going to hotels and changing their default search engines—but I’m failing to see how any of these changes will make it a default choice for new users.

I know for me I have had to stop using DDG on a cellphone, because since the new look, it simply does not work.

I’ve recorded my concerns at this forum.

Maybe DDG’s only for new phones and those of us who have older ones are left in the cold. If I’m not alone then that’ll explain any drop in mobile traffic.

I agree!

I don’t know what’s happened but as of today, regardless of which skin I have in my settings, DuckDuckGo looks like this. This is Firefox on Windows 7.

Of all your incarnations, I don’t remember DDG being this ugly. How do I get back the look you débuted a couple of months ago? (Not that it works on my phone, but that’s for another thread.)

Having constant issues with this set-up:

Dolphin 10.0.1
Android 4.0.1
Huawei Ascend Y200

Today, when attempting to type in the home-page search box, no keyboard comes up.

If a keyboard comes up, the spelling suggestion row does not appear (DDG is the only site that seems to affect the keyboard this way).

Usually, when typing in the home-page search box, no shifted characters are accepted. I thought initially it was just capitals but now I realize the exclamation mark is dead, too, so I cannot use the bangs.

The only way I can effect a search is to go into settings and use the search box at the top of that page. It’s the only one that accepts shifted characters.

Just adding to my earlier note (apologies if this should have been part of the reply thread). Things have improved, but there are still some bugs for me.

• Based on my set-up (Android 4.0.1 running Dolphin), I cannot begin any query with an uppercase letter. All queries must be in lowercase. The minute I feed in a capital, the cursor becomes an arrow and I can’t type any more.
• The keyboard usually doesn’t disappear after the query is fed in, and occupies half of the results’ page until I hit backspace. (In fact, the first time I went to the new DDG, no keyboard would appear. I had to exit and clear the cache twice on Dolphin before I could get a keyboard.)
• I no longer have the horizontal bar featuring correct spellings when typing a DuckDuckGo query, which is really frustrating for a guy like me with fat fingers.

I’m happy to take screen shots.

Whatever the case, it has improved a lot since I sampled next.duckduckgo.com last week.

Brilliant, x.15a2, thank you for letting me know the URLs are configurable. That makes my life a bit easier!

I am on the same version of Dolphin but not sure about Android—I suspect mine is 4.0.1—running on a Huawei Ascend Y200.

If it helps, it seems to like lowercase letters more than uppercase letters (as in I don’t need to repeat the effort as many times with lowercase queries).
