a comment on the General Rambling Disabling / removing Bing in IE 11 3 years and 3 months ago
I had DuckDuckGo set as the default home page in Internet Explorer and when I would open a new tab it would be a DuckDuckGo page and I could search from there.

After recently installing several Microsoft updates IE began routinely freezing up and crashing. I uninstalled an reinstalled IE, now Bing is set as the default (even though I un-ticked it on the install) and I have managed to disable it but can neither remove it completely or add any other search engines.

I have again set DuckDuckGo as my home page but when I open a new tab it always defaults to Bing even though I have it "disabled"

Is there some way to get rid of Bing altogether? I have disabled / removed everything I can find relating to Bing / MSN to no avail.

When I attempt to use the "Set DuckDuckGo as your default search engine" link on the DuckDuckGo home page the link will not open.

No matter what I have tried it appears that IE will neither allow me to change the Bing Default or even add another search engine.

Extremely pissed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

"Alternately, if this isn't working, click the gear in the upper right hand corner and select 'Manage add-ons'. Go to Search Providers, click on the search provider of your choice and make sure the box marked 'Search in the address bar' is checked"

THAT was the problem.

Fixed.

I have finally managed to nuke Bing as my default search engine in IE 11 and have replaced it with DDG as the default.

When I open my browser it now finally takes me to the DDG home page. I can search from that page with no problem and links I am taken to open with no problem, however, if I open a new tab and type a query into the address bar (there is no search box on the page) and hit enter I always get this:

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address http://pickles is correct. (Searched for "pickles")
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.

Anyone know why and how I can fix it?

Thank you.
