In addition to GPG, I would like to draw attention to the Namecoin project.

It is a distributed name system suitable for domain names (aka .bit domains) and personal identity and public key distribution, and a number of other emergent applications. It has inherent censorship resistance and provable trust properties. There are already several node implementations including a browser plugin. Work is ongoing.

I believe the future of the free internet will depend on a peer-to-peer DNS of some type, and we owe it to the future to explore all technically valid options. The current hierarchical system is already untenable in many places, and is on its way the remainder:

Seconded.

I'd like to have a play with this one. It looks like there are several spices already guessing user location if none is given.

I would very much like to see this as a daily user.

I've had my eye on wiki products for a long time. One challenge is the main wikipedia instant answer is internal to DDG, ie not part of the community platform.

Ideally we would have a module to query general mediawiki installations and leverage it to hit a large number of them as IA's.

IMFDB is an instance of MediaWiki which has a nice API well documented here but other instances should be identical or at least very simiilar. Here are some wiki instances which should be a good source of more IA's.

Jag and I spoke about this at Q&H yesterday. There were some interesting conclusions.

First, it's not obvious to the community that some IA's--the wikipedia one especially--are internal to DDG. It would be helpful to have a list of these written down somewhere linked in the IA tutorials. Also helpful would be a little understanding of how IA triggers are prioritized: a flowchart maybe?

Second, if some of the internal Wikipedia code got lifted to a library (a Moo::Role?) it could get reused If the internal code is not suitable for reuse, whoever takes on the first media wiki API AI should probably design it with reuse in mind, to help out with all the rest of those IAs to come.

This is kind of related and might be better as its own topic. I would also like to see something which, given a user and their browser, would compare the results of these search engines, plus the results from the same engines _from a netral IP and browsesr_, from the perspective of what does goog, bing, etc think of my demographics, and what filter bubble are they presenting to me?

For example, if searching for "endurance" Goog shows you viagra and cialis ads/results when signed in, but shows you running/fitness otherwise, you might infer Goog thinks you're an older male. Do all the engines agree? How do they compare to DDG? There's a lot you could do here.

It could all be done client side too.
