I think this translation is to turn on the region switch on the search page.
Using "allumé" is odd because the switch hides a part of the word. this is the same for "éteind" (I will put a comment there too).
I propose to let "On" :
- french people are used to the "on/off" words on electronic devices (e.g. child toys)
- it's more readable than a long partyl hidden word (actually we only see "eind" because the first two letters of '"allumé" are not visible

La traduction est un peu plus longue que la phrase originale c'est vrai, j'ai beau y réfléchir, je n'arrive pas à trouver plus court en restant fidèle à l'originale; problème classique de la traduction.

Bien que je trouve la formulation "uniquement sur une base volontaire", plus élégante et qui est d'ailleurs utilisée en français suisse, je pense qu'on peut, sans que cela soit incorrect, utiliser "complètement volontaire". Finalement ça fonctionne alors que "complètement arbitraire" ne convient pas du tout

it's not exactly what I meant, but you're actually right,
if I specify a search term it's working.

the thing is that I'm redirected to different URL depending on the !bang I use without specifying any search term.

I just realized that "!gnde" is still working, it redirects me to google news FR (maybe google does the redirection, and not ddg)
