a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Use better technologies than URL redirection for referrer hiding 1 year and 5 months ago
The redirect setting is actually defaulted to OFF now for most (modern) browsers (those that support the meta referrer tag.) The meta referrer tag solves the same privacy issues in a much more elegant way, you can read more about it here: https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2015/0...

DDG has a process for reporting SPAM sites, the same can be used for reporting sites that you are reporting. Please use this link: https://duck.co/help/results/spam

Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to add that when I tested using Opera with Turbo enabled, it cut the load time by more than 1/2.

It would be expected for JS to consume more resources and it is used to deliver more content. A couple of things that you can experiment with:
  • Try using the standard theme
  • Try disabling Instant Answers (you will still get the IA links at the top, which falls in line with your request for links to IA's but seems to reduce load time)
  • Instead of using settings from saved cookie or cloud, try using the bookmarklet URL.
I'll be interested in knowing if you see positive results from these suggestions as I did, but in short it is to be expected that the more feature-rich page will take longer to load.

No, the Instant Answer Selections (Images, Videos, News, Definition, Products, etc.) require the use of JS. The lite version is great for use with mobile devices (uses less data) and the HTML version is best for desktop use in low bandwidth situations so adding the extra functionality of the full version would mostly defeat the purpose of those light weight versions.

I'll ask the Dev's about links to full version, see what their thoughts are on that.
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling how to hide "the search engine that doesn't track you. Learn more" message 1 year and 5 months ago

DDG is my default search engine, so how does that bypass the DDG home page completely ? What is the URL of the resulting page ?
If DDG is your default search engine (diffent than your Home page) , when you use the search bar or search using the URL bar, you will be taken directly to the DDG search results page, bypassing the DDG home page.

Using ABL with PM and\or ABP should work the same as uBO, I was just giving an example.

The "Learn More" text is hard coded to the page and not available from a setting. You can use the Lite or HTML versions of DDG, but they are not as full featured. Since you are using Pale Moon and\or Firefox, you can select DDG as the default search engine and bypass the DDG home page completely.

I've also tested using uBlock Origin and you can block the "Learn More" line.

Thanks

That's correct. The non-JavaScript versons of DDG lack some of the features present on the primary site because of its heavy use of JavaScript.

One thing that might help (suggestion, not a recommendation) is using Opera browser with Turbo enabled may help a bit with your slow connection speeds.

Not sure which browser you are using on your MBP, but if it is Safari, just go into Preferences, select Search and choose DuckDuckGo from the dropdown list.
