Thx for the references. We will fix this encoding problem on the next update (as well some other bugs!).

Thought about LyricWiki but LyricsMode had a significantly broader coverage. Ultimately, I'd like to use several providers to get more comprehensive coverage.

I personally think what DDG is currently doing is fair use in both the traditional sense and via the search engine snippet exception. We're linking to the source (in this case LyricsMode) and only taking paragraph excerpts.

You are right--that zero-click example sucks. Again I'm sorry you had such a bad first experience! I'm marking this as a bug and will prevent it from coming up in the future (and cases like it).

Thank you. It used to say "Duck Duck Go is a search engine, like Google." I just added this back and I think this solves this issue. People's frame of reference is Google, and I should have never removed that explicit framing.

And yes, it is not working for you :). You must have JS turned off or disabled in some fashion for DDG, which gets most of its results asynchronously via JS.

Ghostery used to cause problems, but it was supposedly fixed: http://getsatisfaction.com/ghostery/topics/ghostery_causes_firefox_to_crash_on_duckduckgo_com

In any case, I don't think that belongs on the about page. More the FAQ :).

Please let me know if that fixes it and sorry for the bad experience thus far!

That would be really cool. I think the areas that make the most sense quickly to people are zero-click info and privacy. In fact, I think maybe only one should be tackled (per video), in which case I'd pick the zero-click info.

Something like (this needs to be re-worked of course and is literally off of the top of my head):

**Duck on a white or red background**

Hi, I'm <name of duck> from Duck Duck Go.

**homepage fades in**

Duck Duck Go is a search engine, like Google.

**search starts being conducted with good 0-click**

You should use it instead of Google because you get the information you want faster.

** highlight box**

You see that red box at the top? That's the zero-click info box, which gives you useful information about your search with 0-clicks.

** other searches with good 0-click**

Often times, you don't have to even click on any links. And that's just the beginning. DuckDuckGo also has more privacy, less spam, and tons of other goodies.

Wife commented that maybe the hand waving could be curbed, like perhaps it is good for a waving still but otherwise unnecessary. I could see that. Will also get feedback from my sister and report back.

I'm not necessarily wed to it or anything. Iterate all you want!

This isn't really a money-making thing. I got a bunch of t-shirt requests, and this enables those people to get them and help spread DDG by wearing them.

OK, now I can reproduce it. the + was getting interpreted as a space (and with the space it isn't broken). Will fix.

Thank you very much for the offer. I don't have anything in particular at the moment except what I said in my other thread, which is thinking about how you might improve the search UX either holistically or incrementally. I'm collecting feedback and as a designer I would highly value it.
