Can you explain a bit more?  I'm on Win, but I am not having any problems (not in Chromium either).

If you type / in the search box or search bar, it doesn't show up? Or the error after you hit enter?

Yes, I would like to do this. The issue right now is cost.
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling What's so radical or revolutionary about Duck Duck Go that the average person can easily comprehend? 8 years and 8 days ago
I try to explain this on the about page: http://duckduckgo.com/about.html

Of course I'm open to ideas so I'd turn it around and say what would wow the average person?

This should now be fixed.

Thx--I believe I fixed this. Two things to note:

1) Doing ?q=search will give different results sometimes that /search. In particular, disambig pages are de-emphasized using the /.

Thx for this example as well. I just re-orgd a lot of the Spelling code, which fixed this example. Keep 'em coming!

Google, Yahoo & Bing all now often show you results for what you didn't search for, automatically. I specifically decided not to do this, but if you don't, you really need to have good 'did you mean' stuff.

I've gotten several complaints comparing with Google on queries where they obviously misspelled, but Google did show the correct spelling automatically. Clearly, it's hit or miss but I prefer the did you mean and showing the misspelled results.

I'll think about open sourcing this piece.
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Autocomplete for search box 8 years and 9 days ago
I use LIKE queries in other areas, but they aren't fast enough for key by key suggestions. A memory search tree could work, but that essentially re-implementing solr. I suggested solr because someone who has experience with auto-complete suggested it.
a reply to a comment on the General Rambling Bangs for Firefox and Chrome addon search 8 years and 9 days ago
I'll add those add-on searches. The idea is that third-party search engines are good for certain verticals and in those cases we let you quickly get to them.

There are a few cases where the collection doesn't have its own engine, and so I've turned it into a site: query on DDG. But for ones that have an engine, I figure you want to go there or else you could just search 'x firefox addon' or 'x site:firefox.com'.

Creative commons search is !cc :)

That would be cool. I started to do this (half implemented) here: http://duckduckgo.com/zero.html, but I wasn't getting a great signal/noise ratio.

As you can see, I put that in there. I've been getting complaints though, so I'm torn. Apparently it turns people off, though I'm not sure why yet.
